NELLIE

Picture

   Jennet
   Age: c. 20
   Arrival: 2022

   Current status: In training
   RECENT SPONSORS: Jeanette D.,
   ASSIGNED VOLUNTEERS:

History: Nellie was saved by a compassionate individual from a home in the
Los Lunas area, where she was kept in a tiny pen together with some goats.
Her rescuer was originally planning to keep her but did not have the
experience or skills to give her proper training. Over time, Nellie became
more difficult to handle and developed persistent anxieties about being
    haltered.

 .

Personality: Nellie enjoys being a resident at our facility and has a lot of friends. She is being given as much time as she needs to develop or regain full trust in humans. She has never been observed to quarrel with other donkeys and is very happy about all the donkey company, after the long years of loneliness she must have endured in her early life. She is still somewhat aloof with people but loves treats, is curious, and ready to learn. She enjoys being groomed when approached carefully. She is bonded mostly with Seca and Luella, and also hangs out with Sasha, Marian, and Rosie at times.

Diet: Nellie does well on a diet of bermuda grass hay and barley straw. Her herd has a salt and trace mineral block and occasionally gets a tub of Equilix minerals. Sponsor Luella here!
