Hans Huning Metal Art Prints
These beautiful metal art prints are sized 10x14" and have a glossy finish. Metal prints are made from sleek aluminum sheets where the image is transferred through dye sublimation. This involves printing the image onto transfer paper before heating or baking it together with polymer-coated metal. As a result, the metal print finish is basically the ink that merges with the medium, making the output sturdy and incredibly vibrant. The prints come with mounting devices (not hardware) and instructions.
We currently offer 10 different prints. All prints are the same size (8x14) and based on originals by Hans Huning, a German 20th-century artist who happens to be our executive director's talented grandfather. The originals are pencil drawings and watercolors. The artist has an interesting biography. He was a school teacher for the subjects Art and Physical Education, but he lost his job after refusing to join the NSDAP in the 1930s. He then went into hiding with his family at a farm in the countryside. After the war, he spent years trying to receive compensation for the loss of income he suffered during the Nazi period. Some of his drawings during the Nazi period depict SS or Gestapo officers searching people's homes. Hans Huning was fascinated by the folk tales collected by the Brothers Grimm, and many of his pieces feature one or the other of the tales or their characters.
For example, the original of The Town Musicians of Bremen is dated April 1963. It is based on a 1819 fable by the Brothers Grimm. It is mostly a pencil drawing with some watercolor highlights.
